Bubble Waffles in a Waffle Puff Pan

Creative Bubble Waffle Recipe Ideas

Bubble waffles are popular street food in Hong Kong that’s gaining popularity around the world. And it’s no wonder—made using a special bubble-shaped waffle puff pan, bubble waffles are not only tasty and sweet, but they’re beautiful to look at and really fun to make and eat. Here’s how to use a bubble waffle pan to create photo-worthy treats.

Meet the Waffle Puff Pan

The Basic Bubble Waffle Recipe

Start with a basic bubble waffle batter in a waffle puff pan and let your creativity go wild from there. This waffle batter recipe is a little sweeter than your typical waffle or pancake, and the design of the pan creates a crispy waffle base with soft and tender bubbles of dough throughout. Eat it with some butter and syrup and you won’t be disappointed. Better yet, use it as the base for other creative treats. Here a are few quick ideas:

  • Add 2 tbsp (30 mL) of cocoa powder to your recipe for chocolate waffles.
  • Add ¼ cup (50 mL) of crushed cookies or cereal to the batter for an extra-sweet snack.
  • Make a Strawberry Nutella® Bubble Waffle and top it with fresh whipped cream.

Bubble Waffle Ice Cream Cone

Make the basic bubble waffle batter recipe. Once your waffle is fresh out of the pan, carefully form it into a cone shape. As it cools, it will crisp up and hold that shape. Fill it with your favorite ice cream flavor (or flavors—we’re not here to judge!), add some toppings, and enjoy. It helps to put the waffle cone into a tall glass while you eat. In Hong Kong, you’ll see the waffles served in small paper cones.

Sandwich Bread

For the ultimate sandwich bread, whip up a waffle batter that has less sugar than the original recipe. What you put in-between the waffle bread is up to you, but we love this Cheddar & Chive Bubble Waffle BLT.

Personal Pizza

To make what might be the best personal pizza you’ll ever eat, start by preparing this easy 5-Minute Dough recipe. Divide the dough in half and roll out each half into 8″ (20-cm) discs. Preheat the waffle pan on medium heat for 3 minutes. Spray both sides of the pan with oil, then cook one dough disc for 2–3 minutes. Flip and cook it for 2–3 more minutes or until golden brown. Repeat with the next piece of dough. Top your cooked dough with sauce, cheese, and your favorite pizza toppings and throw it under a broiler until it’s melted.

Grilled Cheese

Could a classic grilled cheese get any better? The answer is, yes. Spray the waffle pan with oil and preheat it over medium heat for 3 minutes. Brush two pieces of bread with melted butter. Any bread will do but we think grilled cheese is best with classic white bread. Add two slices of cheese between the bread. The cheese you use is up to you! Place the sandwich in the pan and flip it over. Heat the sandwich for 2–4 minutes, then flip the pan and cook for another two minutes or until the cheese is melted and the bread is lightly browned.

Cinnamon Rolls

Saturday morning cinnamon rolls will never be the same when you make them in a bubble waffle pan. Just spray your waffle puff pan with oil and preheat over medium heat for three minutes. Place the cinnamon rolls dough in the pan and immediately flip it over. Cook for 2–4 minutes, then flip and cook for another two minutes or until golden brown. Add your icing and dig in! A quick note—the Pampered Chef Waffle Puff Pan can fit one large cinnamon roll or about three smaller ones.

Hash Browns

While we’re on the topic of breakfast, why not try making hash browns in your bubble waffle pan? Spray the pan with oil and preheat over medium heat for 3 minutes. Fill the inner circle of the pan with hash browns and immediately flip it over. Heat the hash browns for 3 minutes, then flip and cook it for another 3 minutes. Continue flipping back and forth every few minutes until they’re cooked to your liking. Crispy hash brown fans here! It will take about 15 minutes for golden brown hash browns and you can lift up the pan to check doneness while you’re cooking. Top your cooked hash browns with a couple slices of bacon—crispy, of course—and a fried egg for a creative open-face breakfast sandwich.

Hash browns and eggs are good options, but has anyone had success with gluten free batters in this? TIA

I picked up a gluten free pancake mix from Costco and it cooks up great in the Waffle Puff Pan

I am curious about gluten free options as well.

Check out the new “chaffle” craze. Any of those low carb options would work as gluten free. I used 3 eggs and 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella and it was fantastic.

I also used the recipe that comes with it and used gluten free flour in place of the regular flour and they came out delicious! My boys love them!

Alisa, I am gluten free and have not had any issues making GF pancakes, or with using any GF batter in the Bubble Waffle Pan. Message me if you would like more GF tips!

What are the cleaning instructions and how difficult is it to clean this pan? My traditional waffle maker is a bear to clear which is why I hate to use it.

    • Stephani Bayhylle July 23, 2019 at 2:59 pm #

Nicole it’s super easy to clean, just a little soap and water is all it takes. Shhhh…sometimes I just rinse mine with hot water and wipe it dry.

Is there a recipe that doesnt require so much sugar?

  7. Jim StClair August 8, 2020 at 9:16 pm #

Truth be told, any of my nonstick pans, to include the waffle maker, only get a hot water wash, scrape, and dry. Soap is a no-no on non-stick.
